Hello Everyone,

With the baseball season upon us again, we know that some of you (OK, all of you) have questions about the status of the Major Diamond and what’s taking so darn long to get it finished.
Of course, we wish it had been ready for play last summer. But nothing is ever quite as easy as one would hope. In short, all the area around the diamond itself is the responsibility of Ancaster Little League, but the responsibility of the field itself belongs to the City of Hamilton. As a result, the work that’s been done to get it into shape -- as well as assuming the costs involved -- has been undertaken by the City and its contractors.

As is the case in any large bureaucracy, things sometimes don’t get done as fast as we’d like. Glitches pop up and wrinkles emerge. That in a nutshell, is what has happened here.

However, the good news is that despite appearances, we are actually very close to having a finished diamond. Just this morning, the City released the field to us so we can now get on it and fix the deficiencies. Also, this week, a substantial grant from the Trillium Foundation arrived which will cover the cost of new grandstands. Cement for the grandstand foundation will be poured within the next couple weeks, as well as the cement pads for the dugouts. The clay that will make up the infield and warning tracks will be arriving soon and should be in place within a few days after arrival.

My point is, you will notice substantial improvements over the next three or four weeks that will have the field ready and playable for the John Stokoe Tournament held during Ancaster Heritage Days.

On another note, please find attached a letter from the Canadian Little League Championship organizing committee. We'd ask you read it and consider if you're able to help in any way, large or small.
